Hira Tanenashi Asian Persimmon ひら たねなし
Diospyrus kaki
When fully dormant has stood -40 degrees F Siberian cold in northern Japan, but because of the East Coast's fluctuating springtime temperatures and late frosts, I do not recommend Hira where there are -10 degrees F winters. Orange fruit, medium size, excellent quality, appealing appearance. Sweet when flesh is soft. High annual bearing, early ripening. Height around 15'. Space 12' circle. Leaves have excellent red fall color. Mostly seedless fruit. Zones 6-9.
